20 Rustic Bedroom Designs

Some part of my heart is drawn to rustic designed rooms. I blame Oklahoma. And some part of this cold and icy day has me longing to be in a log cabin and warm fire. Since that just isn't in the books today, I thought I'd gaze at some beautifully designed rustic bedrooms. Here are my favorites-

Quick Fix-Ups To Get Your House Ready To Sell

Thinking of selling? Or even selling soon? Here are a few tips of quick and relatively easy things you can do to your house to get it ready to go on the market!

(Side note: Speaking of selling soon, I talked here about why your should sell during the holiday season!)

1. Deep Clean Your Carpets - Carpets are a big deal. No one wants to see where you spilled spaghetti last winter or that slightly darker, matted spot where your dog always laid. Deep clean those babies!

2. Fix The Small Things - Leaky faucet? Squeaky door hinge? Fix those! Have fixes that you need a pro to handle? Check out my suggested vendors list

3. Pressure wash walkways and exteriors - I've said this before, here. The entrance to your home sets the standard for how people will view it.  Make sure it's clean and presentable.

4. Use neutral paint colors - People won't love your purple bathroom as much as you do, I promise. Fresh, neutral paint.

5. Display important documents - New hot water heater in 2011? Warranty on your roof from 2012? Provide that paperwork- it really puts buyers at ease.

What other quick and easy tips do you think help get your house ready to put on the market? Happy Wednesday everyone!

Lace Up Your Skates!

The holidays are officially upon us! And I don't know about you, but I'm so excited that next Friday, the Edmond Outdoor Ice Rink will be opened!

It will be open every day from November 22 - January 5th. It will generally be open from 12:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., except for some special hours on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve.  It will be located at the Festival Market Place in Downtown Edmond. For specific holiday hours and admission prices, go here.

So, what do you say? Let's all meet there next Saturday for a spin around the rink and some hot chocolate! See you there! (Disclaimer: you must promise to not laugh when I fall.)

5 Reasons Why You Should Sell Your House During The Holiday Season

Many people think that attempting to sell their house during the holiday season isn't a good idea. They think it won't sell, and that it will be a hassle. Well, Keller Williams recently reminded me of a few reasons why selling your house in the holiday season won't be as hard as you think and will benefit you the most!

 1. In the spring, the market is flooded with more listings which can lower your asking price. You can sell your home for more now, at the end of the year.

2. You can sell it now and ask for a delayed closing or extended occupancy so you can wait to move until the new year.

3. With the two above mentioned scenarios, you will be able to sell your house high (because of the less-saturated market) and buy low in the new year and early spring.

4. January is usually when people start new jobs. So people transferring to the area are looking for property in the holiday season. Capture that buyer.

5. A few random things: some buyers need to buy before the end of the year for tax reasons, houses show better with holiday decor, and holiday decor makes people emotional and more encouraged to buy.

The winter months make selling seem more difficult. I hope these ideas have shown that it is not only possible, but it is profitable. If you have any other questions or ideas on this subject, or are ready to sell, do not hesitate to let me know!

How to ruin your kitchen remodel

Yep, you read that title right. We talk so much about updating and renovating in real estate (and on this blog- like here and here). So when I saw this article about a kitchen renovation gone not as expected, I thought I'd share it with you.

Spoiler alert: her kitchen turned out beautiful but her story goes to show you that you should listen to your own ideas, trust yourself, and know what you will love in the end.

She wanted her kitchen to look like this

Lots of white. Dark floors. Fresh.

And after listening to the opinions of others and making up for previous mistakes, it now looks like this.

Full article here. Check it out. She has great advice.

The end result is still beautiful. But it is evident that her desire and her final product are two different styles. If you renovating, planning or thinking of renovating, trust you gut and go with what you want. And if you make a mistake that will be a game changer, fix the mistake, don't just work around it.
